[Just found this posts in my drafts. Posting it 3 years after I wrote it and added the video and a note at the bottom.]
This looks like a proper sexy bit of kit. Compact live video encoding on the fly.. I’d have to see what the gains are to having a netbook do the work.. but the things I would do with one of these.. And of course some bandwidth.
I still feel the price could come down a chunk. Just because it saves you buying a truck does not mean it has to cost the price of a second hand car.
If it were cheaper you would start to see some really innovative uses from bloggers and journalists. At the moment it’s just the corporate video streamers that will get to play.
If China copies it and it’s found to be on sale for half this price i will let you know..
WANT! The live streaming from a badger option is something I’ve been waiting for for quite a while ๐
it maybe small, but u seen the 3g multichannel router you need to go with it to make it live? and the aerials? the truck has been shruck to a van, great! i’d go with the netbook/laptop option personally, battery lasts longer, or what about van down to a backpack – this looks like it could be the daddy for capturing the badger http://www.liveu.tv/
you could always become an online reseller through ourmaninside?
So @ilicco if all that is needed then the cost for a complete solution really rockets up. Is there nothing smaller than http://www.liveu.tv ?
the Liveu has 6x3g sims in it, any smaller will affect aerial perfmnce i presume. i think we need to test one out! leave it with me ๐
Been gagging to try My AJA IO HD with some live streaming actually.. can run absolutely any format through it HD/SDI +HDMI and it attaches to Macbookpro via fw800..
Looks good to me. And cheaper than the nearest rival as far as I can tell. Yes, this coupled with an Aja IO HD would rock, but not absolutely necessary. A pre-mixed input allowing multiple cameras for those needing it would work. But it’s all about the upstream connectivity ….
