Here’s a funky little mod from PowerTraveller.com
If you were wondering why your USB output on your Powertraveller devices appeared to not charge the iPad fear not.. the Gorilla-pad enables you to efficiently charge your iPad from your Minigorilla, Powergorilla or Solargorilla in 2 hours.
Apple have made it difficult to deliver the right current to charge the iPad. A normal USB socket delivers only 1A so more often than not you don’t get a charge icon. It is charging, but really slowly. This device though takes the output power from the DC port on your various Powertraveller devices, regulates it and delivers the 5V 2.1A needed. When using the Minigorilla and Powergorilla select 8.2 volts for the most efficient charging.
This for me is a great little add-on as i may have felt the urge to upgrade when new devices come out to deal with the iPad charge issue but as my Powertraveller kit is still going strong I can continue to use it. More companies should make their kit future proof in this way.
Also, up until now I have been using the car socket out into a 2.1A usb car charger plug. The Gorilla-Pad solution is much more lightweight and compact and as it’s made specially to go with the Powertraveller range I know it is the ideal fix. I am especially glad to have a compact solar to iPad charge solution.
All i need now is some sun.
The unit I have was sent to me for review/test but these should go on sale towards the end of September for £10 each.
