I just plugged a compact flash card into this card reader i bought from @memorybits this week for £4.45 and it gave my MacBook Pro the grey screen of death. On restarting the mac there were files in the trash that i deleted without looking at. They appear to have been the photos I took yesterday while out and about in London with friends.
Perhaps the price should have been a clue to the quality of this device. I have never had a card reader do this before.
I am now using RescuePro to try and retrieve what information there is left on the card and although it’s hopeful.. the card reader is going in the bin.
I have had cards fail before but never because of a card reader that also borks my Mac demanding a hard restart.
I buy a lot of stuff from @MemoryBits and have been happy up till now.
This is certainly serious though. What if i had shot an entire job on that card and suddenly all was lost. I still do not know if the images of @Sizemore, @Bennycrime, @Loudmouthman and @LloydDavis are salvageable.
I guess this is why it is always important to test your kit before using it on an important job. God knows how I would have felt if this happened on one of my future foreign assignments.
Oh Shit! that is serious faux pas ;( I hope you manage to recover them
@hedgewytch I did thanks. I got all the pix back with the help of some software. 🙂
