An Ultra Sound Day

This morning we saw our little baby for the first time.

On a square screen in a darkened room we looked upon the surreal sight of a grainy monochrome child wriggling in ultrasound.

Nothing has been real until this moment. Now I can safely say, We are having a baby.

On entering the room, I was full of questions about the high tech kit. As soon as the screen flickered to life I was stuck dumb.

Smiling and staring, staring and wondering what this little child is and what it will become.

In these last few years online, keeping a portion of my private life private has been relatively easy. My Wife Jess works long hours and I am left working from home, creating social media mayhem whilst at the same time doing my best to protect her from any of my internet shenanigans.

I feel that pretty soon, we are to experience a convergence..

    Babies were much on my mind today. I kept seeing them all over, seems we’ve had a baby boom in NYC. How perfect it is to come home and find your news. Gives me feelings of wonder and awe. I am so happy for you Christian. As for the coming convergence, I bet Jess will be loved just as much as you are.

    Congratulations to you both. It will be a blast. Mine are 28 and 20 and each has aged me about a thousand years – thus the fetching greyness of the not yet fallen out hairs. But worth it.
    Not often I envy the unborn, but this sproghas a Dad-in-waiting that will make her/his life a great adventure. And a Mum that must be equally adventurous (not to mention saintly) to have put up with you :-)

    When you told me that your wife was pregnant, i tried to visualise how much your life would change… Then I remembered how much my life altered when my little boy was born.
    We tried for 10+ years to have a child, we had almost given up hope of ever being a mummy or a daddy.. Then a miracle, my wife missed her period(she NEVER missed her period), I remember the time exactly and always will…
    I was working at a Take-away in the town at the time, she called me whilst I was on a delivery, it was 7pm and she was round her friends house. She said to me ” Lee, i need to tell you something” ok i said, shoot.. ” I have done 6 pregnancy tests and I am definitely pregnant!”
    I will always remember that moment along with the 9 months of pregnancy that followed. The the moment came, the moment I had waited for since I was a young man – I was about to meet my child, my son……
    He was born by caesarian section at 18:13 on October 13th 2004, his little stained body emerging from my wife’s tummy into this worl and screaming his head off!!
    No, nothing would ever be the same… Its different….
    But so so good…

    Congratulations to all three of you! I still have a copy of the scan of my daughter taken 12 years ago. It still chokes me up and fills me with wonder at the adventure we have had since then. Over a year you have experienced the full cycle from your mother’s death to her granddaughter’s arrival. I was very moved by the blog about your mum and Melanie.
